How far is Barataria from New Orleans?

Ripp describes the fishing area as about 35 minutes south of New Orleans.

Where do trips begin and end?

Trips depart from and return to Joe's Landing, across the bayou in Barataria.

Can Ripp pick us up from our lodging?

Yes. Lodging pickup is available by request and becomes part of the individual quote.

Are the charters private?

Private charters are the typical Ripp's Charters experience.

What time do trips begin and return?

Trips begin at daylight and usually return around noon.

Are beginners welcome?

Yes. Ripp and his guides patiently teach guests how to fish and set the hook.

Are children welcome?

Yes. Children are welcome. Ripp says age eight and older generally do best, though younger children who already fish may also enjoy the trip.

Is this rough offshore fishing?

No. Ripp's Charters fishes protected inland waters where guests can see land.

What equipment is provided?

Ripp provides fishing equipment, bait, life jackets, fish cleaning and bagging, plus a knowledgeable insured guide.

What happens if weather forces a cancellation?

Sometimes the group waits at the landing. If weather forces cancellation, deposits are refunded.

What happens to the fish?

Guests may keep or release their catch. Fish that are kept are cleaned and bagged.
